About the Position: Serves as the Supervisory Medical Records Administration Specialist. Performs a variety of duties involved with auditing, analyzing, coding, and reviewing medical data and medical records for the hospital and clinics.

Duties
Incumbent supervises outpatient coding, inpatient coding and medical transcription.
Provides technical oversight in all activities pertaining to coding of inpatient Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) and ambulatory patient groups (APGs).
Performs a variety of duties involved with auditing, analyzing, coding and reviewing medical data and medical records for the hospital and clinics.
Reviews Data Quality and audit results monthly, monitor reports/audits for trends to target training program to the most needed areas.
Collaborates with Chief and Deputy Chief of Patient Administration Division to coordinate the training and continuing education of medical staff and coders.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) business travel may be required approximately 5% of the time.
- This position may require the incumbent to work overtime due to mission requirements.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position may require the incumbent to complete a one year supervisory probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing quality assurance reviews or recommendations to ensure coding compliance with applicable requirements and regulations; evaluating coded data and supporting documentation to identify adherence to applicable standards, coding conventions and guidelines, and documentation requirements; AND responding to coding related issues or programs with executable solutions to issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Medical Records Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
