The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the principal office assistant performing various administrative and clerical duties in support of the organization and to perform office automation duties such as word processing in support of the administrative and clerical work.
Duties
Directly assists the commander/director in the management of all administrative support program functions. Administers programs and serves as the primary source of information. The incumbent is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and deposition of required administrative reports and other correspondence.
Serves as the organizational point of contact and liaison with the personnel flight on military and civilian personnel issues. Stays abreast of current personnel issues and provides explanations of personnel-related requirements, regulations, and procedures to supervisors and managers.
Serves as the resident subject matter expert for all mandated administrative support programs. Ensures unit program compliance with regulations, laws, policies, and squadron commander directives.
Assists in planning, administering, and monitoring manpower resource requirements. Serves as the point of contact for both civilian and military position utilization. Maintains manpower manning documents.
Performs other clerical and administrative work in support of the office/organization. Develops, establishes, updates, and maintains office procedures and records/files of various types to ensure effective and efficient operation of the office

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialize experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes consolidating reports submitted and review outgoing correspondence prepared by others for procedural and grammatical accuracy, conformance with general policy, and factual correctness; knowledge of an extensive rules, procedures or operations applied to secretarial clerical assignments; knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization and format.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the organizational and functional responsibilities and operations of an organization.
2. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
3. Knowledge of structure, programs, and work methods of organization for personnel/manning issues.
4. Skill in fact-finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and development of concrete action plans to solve problems.
5. Ability to gather, analyze, and present facts, communicate effectively, using tact and courtesy and possess the ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
6. Ability to plan and organize management programs and functions of an organization.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
