This position serves as a Respiratory Therapist for the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, SD. The incumbent will provide respiratory therapy using a variety of complex respiratory equipment to critical care patients. This position reports to the Director of Respiratory Services.
Duties
Provides respiratory therapy using ventilators, aerosol mists, oxygen, inhales and intubation/extubation techniques.
Calibrates respiratory equipment and may make emergency repairs in coordination with Biomed services.
Coordinates the periodic maintenance and repair of all respiratory equipment with Biomed Services.
Provides pulmonary outpatient services. Conducts pulmonary function testing and refers patients for prescription of items such as home nebulizer machines, O2 concentrators, and continuous positive airway pressure machines.
Identifies training needs of the hospital staff relating to respiratory therapy and either personally provides training or recommends appropriate sources of training. Maintains records of training provided to the staff.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate the following education and/or experience as outlined below for the grade level(s) you are applying to. Any specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the tasks as identified.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Examples Include: Independently providing emergency inhalation therapy treatments to critically ill and high-risk patients. Sets up and operates pressure ventilators, pneumatic nebulizers to administer complex inhalation therapy treatments. Calibrates and maintains blood gas analyzer and blood gas supplies. OR one year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Performing a variety of difficult respiratory therapy such as administering various medications to patients with acute and chronic respiratory distress. Performs airway and tube care on intensive care patients. Sets up, manages and monitors a variety of complex respiratory equipment.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the certificate issuance.
Education
You may qualify for the GS-07 grade level using education. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades.
