Duties
Provides advice to the Assistant Regional Facilities Administer and/or the Regional Facilities Administrator regarding construction and maintenance budgets and requirements within the region. Assists architects and engineers in preparing architectural and structural specifications and drawings for construction and renovation of institution buildings. Develops computer programs to monitor the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities and operations within the region. Provides computer support for all facilities within the region to include evaluation, development, implementation and follow-up support as needed. Reviews B&F project submittals for compliance with standards, policies and codes applicable to construction in correctional facilities.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in:
drafting
surveying
construction estimating
physical science
mathematics
aerospace
architecture
chemicals
electrical or mechanical systems
mining
petroleum
nuclear systems
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
Certification: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Experience providing routine to complex technical review of engineering and construction projects; Experience performing field investigations and gather data for the preparation of designs for in-house projects.).
Experience collaborating and conferring with architects, engineers, contractors, utility companies and municipalities to provide information and assistance regarding the interpretation of applicable laws, codes and regulations related to projects.
Experience assisting engineering and architectural firms in the preparation of bid specifications and construction design specifications for capital improvement projects and prepare exhibits, construction plans, specifications, reports and as-built plans as required.

Experience demonstrating proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and related software; set-up, modify, update, and maintain CAD standards.
