This position is located in Big Cypress National Preserve, in the Division of Natural Resources Management.
Duties
Serves as a project leader or senior project member for complete hydrologic investigations by planning, conducting, and reporting on interpretive studies.
Modifies established hydrologic techniques or procedures. Collects, interprets, analyzes and evaluates hydrologic data.
Works on complex or controversial water issues whose solutions require a proven understanding of hydrology and one or more related disciplines such as hydraulics, geology, ecology, geochemistry, and the complexities of ground or surface water flow.
Serves as subject matter expert for the supported state/region/supported organizations. Provides current information on policy, resource management, State or local water regulations, and technical requirements.
Prepares investigative project proposals and develops work plans and protocols which include consideration of previous experimental and theoretical analyses, evaluation of all available data from 2 various sources, and the development and adaptation of procedures and methods of investigation.
Oversees, plans and/or performs a wide range of data collection assignments. Conduct of these investigations requires application of a high degree of experienced professional judgment as well as advanced analytical methods.
Serves as principal contact with cooperating agencies in the identification, design, planning, and conduct of water-resources investigations.
Serves as consultant and advisor to supervisors and other scientists on matters pertaining to specialized knowledge and assists in training personnel in areas of expertise including techniques of data collection and analysis.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess one of the following basic requirements by close of the announcement:
Degree: physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels.

Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the above criteria, to qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: analysis and presentation of scientific data; and/or experience performing hydrologic, climatologic, oceanographic, hydraulic and/or engineering analyses required to assess effects on water resources from actual and proposed water management operations. You must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
