This position is in Region 3, Land, Chemicals, and Redevelopment Division, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Actions Branch, RCRA Corrective Action Section - West. Qualifications

NOTE:  You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as evaluating human health and/or environmental hazard information and/or risk assessments; and responding to inquiries from the public, the media, and other concerned individuals that pertain to the human health and environmental effects of specific chemical substances. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of toxicology sufficient to assess conditions that exist in routine environmental situations in terms of possible threats to human health. Knowledge of RCRA and TSCA. Skill in selecting and applying procedures and established methods and practices to solve problems that arise in Superfund project work. Ability to design monitoring surveys for exposure to toxics chemicals and to evaluate the potential impacts of those substances on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Skill in written communication. Skill in conducting ecological risk assessments and evaluations assessing the impacts of chemical and other stressors on human health and/or the environment. Skill in oral communication. Skill in the research and gathering of facts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

Life Scientist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.

Toxicologist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

Chemist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.
