You will serve as a ELECTRONICS MEASURE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the ELECTRICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, test, calibrates, and certify a variety of complex electronic/electrical and test equipment. You will use a variety of tools, measurement devices, and test equipment to manufacture custom parts with complex configurations and assemble prototype devices. You will use shop mathematics pertaining to electricity and electronics to make repairs and conduct test and calibrations. You will interpret technical material such as Multiview drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufactures’ specifications to isolate malfunctions in gyros and complex equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Applying knowledge of principles, basic functions, and applications including: electromagnetism, alternating current, direct current, vacuum tubes, circuit analysis, rectification, detection, modulation, transmission, wave propagation, oscillation, amplification, feedback, resonance, filters and crystal action. Utilizing a variety of equipment from--simple voltmeters and ohmmeters to more complicated types, such as oscilloscopes and synchroscopes. Installing, testing, maintaining, repairing, assembling, and dissembling units and their components. Troubleshooting electronic circuits, units, or systems through instructional manuals and drawings. Working independently, making decisions, planning operations, showing job responsibility, and exercising initiative.
