This position serves as a Supervisor Utility System Repairer - Operator within the Boiler and Chiller Plant Operations Unit at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center.
Duties
As a Utility Systems Repairer Operator Supervisor, you will:
Conduct periodic inspections to ensure safe work practices.
Analyze work related problems and take corrective action within his/her level of authority to solve the problem.
Experience with controlling air handlers, hot water reheat systems, and chilled water system.
Research parts and material resource and costs.
Plan budgetary needs based on replacement and additional equipment, specific projects, and contracted services.
Experience with maintenance and repair of Boilers Systems, Chillers Systems, Natural Gas System, Steam and Chill Water Distributing System, Fuel Oil System, Fire Alarm System, Medical Gas System, Elevator System, Emergency Generators, Potable water pumping/distribution systems, battery back up systems (inverters and uninterruptible power supplies), HVAC systems.
Oversee the efficient and effective operation and management of maintenance and repair program for high-pressure steam boilers.
Oversee the efficient and effective operation and management of maintenance and repair program for the central plant air conditioning system.
Identifies and records electrical and mechanical statuses throughout a utility plant.
Draft Medical Center and Engineering Service policies and procedures.
Prepare documents required to procure proper materials, services, equipment, and tools to accommodate a fully operational section.
Experience with Boilers, pumps, condensate tanks, deaerator tank, valves, and steam piping.
Administer a continuing education and training program including instruction as to the proper use of safety devices and safe work habits and personal protective equipment.
Prepare procurement documents and establishes procurement priorities to meet the needs of scheduled work and emergencies.
Ensure the proper and efficient use of resources while motivating the employees in the section to perform as an effective team.
Assist with scheduling maintenance and coordinating utility and equipment shutdown.
Reviews final plans and specifications for construction feasibility and practical installation. Performs inspections and interprets findings to determine corrective action.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility

Physical Requirements: Work is performed inside and outside (heat, cold, under and outside of buildings). Installation, inspections and repairs are often made under dirty noisy conditions. They are frequently exposed to the danger of electrical shock, strains, cuts, bruises, burns and infections and asbestos containment areas.
