About the Position: This position is located at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas.

Duties
Perform the full range of receptionist, recordkeeping and clerical duties within the ambulatory setting. Enter, manipulate and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems utilized by MTF.
Type routine correspondence using various automation systems. Complete request forms for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests.
Maintain and enter patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice. Schedules appropriate patient appointments.
Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically. Ensures eligibility for care, and contacts Patient Administration for verification. Verify Patient Insurance/OHI.
Responsible for the clerical duties inherent to the in processing (reception), care and out processing (transition) of outpatients, families/caregivers and guests. Effectively communicates with patient and their care team.
Reconcile end-of-shift/end-of-day processing and reports.
Respond to emergency calls and follows communication procedures to include operating emergency phone lines, public announcement systems, and emergency alarms. Clearly communicates with associated parties during emergency related operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical duties which include scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and using office automation.
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Additional Minimum Qualifications Typing Proficiency Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
