Duties
You will assess environmental program processes and recommend solutions or improvements.
You will negotiate Government system objectives and terms and conditions to obtain the best value for the Government.
You will represent an organization at headquarter conferences, compliance reviews, public hearing, meetings, or with regulatory agencies for consultation.
You will brief agency engineers, environmental personnel, professionals, or managers on environmental issues and compliance status.
You will identify design and engineering issues to develop alternative solutions as applicable.
You will manage projects to meet commitments (e.g, quality, timeliness, fiscal) within a resource constrained environment.
You will lead environmental programs (e.g., drinking water, wastewater, pollution prevention, spill response, hazardous waste) to recommend or initiate corrective actions for compliance, as needed.
You will compose correspondence for regulatory violations, spills, and other correspondence to comply by Federal, State, and local government environmental regulations.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- The position requires the incumbent to be on-call and available 24 hours a day unless in an authorized leave or temporary duty status. Incumbent may be required to work overtime.
- Incumbent may be required to take part in readiness exercise and real-world response action.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Resolving issues related to various environmental programs such as drinking water system compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and wastewater and storm water system and permit compliance with the Clean Water Act (CWA);
Performing and monitoring environmental projects that ensure compliance with rules and regulations;
Developing projects for study or design and construction from project inception through completion to include: preparing contract solicitations, preparation of contract scopes of work and estimates, tracking contractor efforts and costs, validation of invoices, review of contract deliverables, and contractor evaluations;
Conducting internal/external Environmental Management System (EMS) and compliance audits to ensure compliance with all Federal regulations;
Applying knowledge of the principles and concepts of multi-disciplinary engineering primarily involving water supply, treatment, and distribution systems to provide briefings to stakeholders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires regular and recurring field inspections, investigations, or surveys in which there is a considerable amount of walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and motor vehicle driving. Employees may carry light items such as books, instruments, and other similar materials. The work does not require any special physical effort.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is usually performed in an office setting, with occasional visits to construction sites and points of environmental compliance. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions while in the presence of construction operations and operating equipment. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as hard hats, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
