Duties
Investigates and renders casework services for suspected child abuse, neglect, and child behavior cases.
Contacts unit commanders to obtain information on military member and to obtain assistance and support in arranging for military member to meet with state or local personnel.
Through interviews and counseling sessions with parents, identifies problems and needs, and develops a plan of assistance and service.
Observes and notes significant behavior and modes of response in families during counseling sessions and alters plans as deemed necessary.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes assisting to identify needs of the family, providing individualized assistance for abuse/neglect cases and assisting with establishing/maintaining case records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
