Duties
As a/an Equal Opportunity Specialist, you will:
Intake/Assess, investigate, conciliate, and/or resolve complex, highly sensitive and difficult allegations of discrimination related to housing, and employment.
Contact respondents to serve charges, explain respondent's rights and obligations under the law, and conducts interviews to obtain evidence.
Work with all necessary HUD divisions and personnel beyond FHEO as well as appropriate persons and organizations outside of HUD to achieve improvements for protected classes, in close consultation with supervisor or higher management officials.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Conducting housing discrimination complaint investigations, analyzing evidence, preparing final investigative reports and making findings and recommendations; AND
- Conducting civil rights compliance reviews of program participants who receive Federal financial assistance.
(Examples of such experience could include:
- Assessing program effectiveness of program participants by reviewing program plans (e.g. Consolidated Plans, Annual Action Plans, etc.) for consistency with program objectives and identifying operational problems and recommending corrective actions; OR
- Providing technical assistance and conducting training regarding the interpretation and implementation of civil rights laws; OR
- Drafting statements on housing discrimination issues and preparing replies to inquiries of a controversial nature or program areas.)
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
