The primary purpose of these positions are to provide a wide range of dispatch, logistical and administrative support functions. Duties

Duties listed are at the full performance level. Coordinates with other dispatch organizations on mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resource Troubleshoots common weather-related data errors and notifies weather station managers and/or fire program managers/planners of complex issues. Briefs and shares information with dispatch staff, fire management, agency leadership, cooperators, and other interested entities. Performs intelligence duties (e.g., resource availability status, management briefings, incident statistics, historical fire and weather analysis, indices charts and mobilization response data Confirms that daily weather observations are being collected by the weather application system and reviews for completeness. Reviews internal operating procedures and systems, implements improvements, and develops operating plans and mobilization guide Inputs data into dispatch computer applications (e.g., incident qualification records, fire reporting systems, and automated dispatch systems). Operates and/or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunications systems Transmits resultant probabilities and forecasts to field personnel and fire management staff. Provides assistance on problems encountered by lower-level dispatch personnel.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.

  • Must pass a Live Scan which includes Federal Bureau of Investigations/Department of Justice background check prior to being certified to perform law enforcement dispatch duties and operating the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04.Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Assisted in receiving, filling, and tracking resource requests for fire and other emergency incidents and/or operates telecommunications systems and/or Inputs data into a number of computer applications. OR Bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; and/or combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Observed field work projects; assisted in the central dispatch of personnel, equipment, aircraft, and supplies for fire, and other normal administrative traffic; and/or collected, processed, and disseminated weather information into computer programs or databases; and/or Reviews internal operating procedures and systems, makes recommendations for improvement, and updates operating plans and mobilization guides. For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Conducted inventories of personnel, equipment, aircraft, and supplies for fire, and other normal administrative traffic; and/or determined the appropriate personnel and resource composition to respond to fires or emergencies, as the situation demands; and/or Operates and/or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunications systems; and/or Briefs and shares information with dispatch staff, fire management, agency leadership, cooperators, and other interested entities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
