About the Position: This is a Health Technician (Surgical) position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Serve as surgical technologist with core competencies in preparing and presenting necessary supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures. Follow established policies and techniques when handling instruments, sponges, sutures, and surgical equipment; observes for break in sterile technique. Responsible for the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation. Demonstrate knowledge of step-by step progress of specific surgical procedures and displays dexterity in the use of the required instrumentation. Rotate among various duty assignments in the department including decontamination, instrument preparation, and storage. Ensure all needed records including radiology, laboratory results, outside records, and consultations are available to the provider.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: (1) assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; (2) preparing equipment and supplies based on specific surgical procedure(s); (3) assisting with the sterilization of surgical instruments while maintaining a sterile operating room; or (4) assisting surgeon or staff members during surgical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
