Duties

Responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the Sex Offender Program (SOP) and for coordinating and evaluating all activities within this program. Responsible for initiating a program combining clinical treatment and behavioral management components. Responsible for coordinating and scheduling the treatment and behavioral management program activities and implementing specialized behavioral management plans. Responsible for the administration, scoring and interpretation of a wide variety of psychological testing instruments and procedures. May be called to testify on professional opinions in federal courts. Plans and performs both individual and group psychotherapy with sex offenders on a regularly scheduled basis. Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary unit team in developing, implementing and assessing program needs and goals. Directly responsible, within the treatment program, for development, evaluation and coordination of residential and nonresidential treatment programs and for designing individual treatment plans. Treatment modalities and techniques used include (but are not limited to) behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, social skills therapy, substance abuse education, individual psychotherapy and prerelease planning. Specialized treatment modalities developed for use with sex offenders may also be employed. Required to provide clinical supervision to treatment specialists. May be called upon to supervise an SOP Social Worker, Administrative Assistant, work of graduate level psychology trainees, practicum students in clinical psychology, consultant psychologists and paraprofessional counselors who may be assigned to the SOP. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff's correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Basic Requirements: Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. NOTE: Applicants may have received this degree in either clinical or counseling psychology. AND In addition to the basic requirements, you must also have: Education: GS-12 and GS-13: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: GS-12 and GS-13: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular assessments to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of the qualifying experience are: GS-12: Experience assisting with the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of a Sex Offender Program. Experience administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological testing instruments and procedures, including objective instruments of personality assessment, risk assessment instruments and procedures, intelligence and cognitive tests, neuropsychological assessment instruments, and inventories of interest, aptitude, criminality and achievement. Experience conducting a wide variety of interviews and crisis intervention sessions with sex offenders. Experience in preparing psychological assessments and reports. GS-13: Experience developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating a Sex Offender Program and for coordinating and evaluating all activities within this program. Experience administering, scoring, and interpreting a wide variety of psychological testing instruments and procedures, including objective instruments of personality assessment, risk assessment instruments and procedures, intelligence and cognitive tests, neuropsychological assessment instruments, and inventories of interest, aptitude, criminality and achievement. Experience planning and performing both individual and group psychotherapy with sex offenders on a regularly scheduled basis. Experience preparing psychological, behavioral, and psychosexual reports for inmates participating in treatment management programs. AND Selective Placement Factor: Applicants applying for this position MUST also possess the following Selective Factor. In the event that you do not possess the Selective Factor, you will be found ineligible for the position. Applicants must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
