THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SUPPLY TECHNICIAN, Position Description Number D1194000 and is part of the KS 235th Regiment, HAYS, KS, Kansas Army National Guard.

Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10, you will troubleshoot, perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, conveyors, bulldozers, power shovels, compressors, generators, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, sedans, buses, all-terrain vehicles, trucks, semi-trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment. Remove and disassemble engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, add fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Make the appropriate repairs, overhaul, or modifications in accordance with the proper repair specifications and procedures. Reassemble engines and other systems, and adjust, test, and reinstall in vehicles and equipment as necessary. Conduct readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. Perform operational inspections and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc., and perform other preventive maintenance operations as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 4/10's compressed work schedule with four 10-hour days, Tuesday-Friday each week of the pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

Requirements

  • KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain secret security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military Grades: E1- E5 Compatible Military Assignments: immaterial GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. Physical Demands: -- Work requires some physical exertion such as recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or lifting. These demands occur, for example, when loading and unloading military vehicles, inventories, inspections, and receipt, issue and turn-in of ammunition and residue. Work Environment: -- Work generally is in an area that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated as typically found in an office environment
