Duties

As a Toxicologist, you will: Supervise a small contingent of positions of various series and grade levels accomplishing the work of the assigned Regional Office. Maintain liaison with other federal agencies and non-federal organizations on matters concerning the immediate threat to public health or the environment from toxic spills or releases Provide toxicological and technical advice on issues regarding human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure from hazardous chemicals in the environment Serve as a toxicologist in the field of environmental toxicology Provide specific recommendations to characterize environmental pathways, including sampling strategies and protocols useful for assessing the possibility of exposure Develop implementation plans and the proper response procedures for the site-specific projects and requests for ATSDR assistance Convene workgroups of agency representatives for consultations or follow-up activities that involve multiple organization divisions Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications Degree: toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing toxicology and public health principles to evaluate human exposure to hazardous chemicals. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.
