This position is an Engineering Equipment Operator, WG-5716-8, working in Bell City, Louisiana, for the North Louisiana Refuges Complex. This is a term position expected to last 13 MONTHS but may be extended up to a total of 2 years at management's discretion.

Duties

As an Engineering Equipment Operator, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Operate a variety of tracked and wheeled heavy equipment, such as excavators, dump trucks, motor-grader, agricultural and articulating tractors with implements, and dozers up to the D6 size. Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment (e.g., front-end loader, forklift, dump truck, farm agricultural tractor and implements, rubber tired backhoe/loader, skid steer, excavator, bulldozer, road grader) and other pieces of equipment as needed for project activities. Operate power tools, including: handsaws, power saws, power planers, plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, lead pots, pipe threaders and cutters, soldering irons, electrical circuit testing equipment and gas and electrical welders. Perform maintenance/repair to buildings, facilities, and equipment requiring basic electrical, mechanical, welding, and carpentry skills. Service and repair equipment which includes checking fluids, lubricating, replacing components that require dismantling of the equipment such as radiators, hydraulic tanks, alternators, tracks, and excavator bucket teeth, and rebuilding components.

Qualifications

To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements. The screen out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
