This Position is located in Blue Ridge Parkway, in the Maintenance and Engineering Division. Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. Duties

Major Duties Statement The incumbents serve as a Maintenance Worker for the Blue Ridge Parkway at either the Fancy Gap Sub-District in located near Fancy Gap, Virginia or at the Gillespie Gap Sub-District located near Spruce Pine, North Carolina. The primary purpose of the position is to assist journey-level, or other higher graded maintenance workers under general supervision in general landscaping and grounds maintenance, basic carpentry, simple electrical installations or repairs, basic plumbing work, and painting interior and exterior surfaces, and perform a variety of janitorial services. Removes trash and debris from roadway and road sites. Operates farm type tractors and associated attachments used to mow maintained roadside landscape areas. Operates trucks up to 1-ton to pick up supplies, transport materials to and from work site, picking up materials from local vendors, or plowing snow as needed. Area/Duty Station Information The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Mitchell County, North Carolina (Gillespie Gap) is approximately 3 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 50 miles northeast of Asheville, NC, and 40 miles southwest of Boone, NC. Carroll County, North Carolina (Fancy Gap) is approximately 15 miles from Galax, Virginia and 14 miles from Mount Airy, North Carolina.
