About the Position: Serves as the installation's principal civilian staff advisor in the area of Employee Assistance Program, a comprehensive program to deal with substance abuse and other mental health related issues, primarily for civilian employees, their family members, and military retirees and their family members.

Duties

Assist customers in identifying employees, retirees and other individuals troubled with substance abuse or other psycho-social problems. Establishes local guidelines for providing EAP services to civilian employees, military and civilian family members and retirees. Conducts substance abuse prevention trainings, seminars and newcomer orientations. Serves as the initial point of contact for all civilian personnel seeking EAP services. Screens clients to assess problems for referral to community resources such as ASAP, Mental Health, Psychiatry, etc.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain obtain a Non-critical Sensitive Secret security clearance for duration of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a sedan or van.
  • Must obtain Prevention Coordinators Certification within two years of employment.
  • Must gain Employee Assistance (EAP) Program certification within three years of assuming any EAP duties. Failure may result in administrative actions or removal from their position.
  • TDY up to 5% may be required.

Basic Requirement for Employee Assistance Program/Prevention Coordinator (EAP/PC): Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Providing prevention and education training; (2) Assessing client issues related to substance abuse to determine services needed; (3) Developing educational presentations related to identifying individuals with substance abuse or other wellness problems; and (4) Assessing prevention programs to recommend program improvements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Work. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
