This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities & the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties
Make recommendations to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies in production operations, construction operations and at the program level.
Evaluate new or different safety trends for policy development to control or eliminate hazards to personnel and property.
Routinely review, update, and implement a full scope safety program for all installation DoD military and civilian employees to comply with federal regulations.
Investigate accidents to determine root cause(s) and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Interpret construction regulation(s) to develop local methods and procedures for compliance.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- TDY occasionally required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a Board-Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or CP-12 qualified/certified within 24 months of hiring.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State issued driver’s license.
Qualifications
About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position serves as a government staff Safety and Occupational Health Specialist located at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC. The position will exercise professional knowledge and independent judgment in identifying hazards, assessing risk, and recommending hazard controls to decision makers.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
Assessment of risk to personnel and property to develop risk strategies;
Develop and recommend safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management to mitigate potential new hazards, and
Interpret federal safety construction regulations to develop local procedures for compliance.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
