Duties

Responsible for the natural resources planning and analysis, land management, grounds maintenance, forest management, fish and wildlife management, and pest management. Conduct external environmental compliance assessments of Army installations to determine their overall environmental readiness posture. Apply professional principles, practices, and techniques in assessing the potential and actual reactions and effects of solid and hazardous wastes on the environment. Serve as an advisor on interpreting, implementing, and maintaining compliance with environmental management policies, directives, and programs. Assess emerging technologies for both detrimental and beneficial impacts and provides guidance for implementation across Army installation.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • TDY travel occasionally required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State issued driver’s license.

Qualifications

About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position serves as a Physical Scientist located at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC. The position will apply an extensive knowledge of management concepts, principles, methods and practices as well as knowledge of methods, practices, and processes of environmental engineering and science disciplines while managing the efficient and effective coordination and execution of the planning, scoping, design, construction, and direction of major projects. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Physical Scientist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing expert advice on interpretation and application of solid and hazardous waste rules and regulations; Conducting analyses and developing solutions to environmental problems; Preparing and presenting information to senior level, technical and/or nontechnical audiences; Conducting environmental compliance assessments; and Developing environmental guidance, planning and/or permit application documentation This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
