This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About Position: Located at FORT HUACHUCA, COCHISE, AZ

Duties

Serve as working leader of three or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor associated with the repair of small arms and chemical equipment. Work setting the pace making and supervising the initial diagnosis and locates mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shot guns; carbines, automatic rifles, machine and submachine guns. Responsible for the safety of personnel and facilities at the work site. Check work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • May require heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs.
  • Up to 25% business travel.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) SMALL ARMS REPAIRER LEADER ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Small Arms Repairer Leader tasks. I can maintenance and repair of small arms, making diagnosis and locating mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbine automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, and other small arms and accessories. I am skilled in disassembling weapons. Use hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs, and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments; apply acids and/or other "bluing" or finishing agents; test fire and make operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety and accuracy. I perform these duties under normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing- The incumbent often lifts subassemblies or small arms weighing 15-20 pounds and may carry large assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Works inside where minor dirt, grease, and dust exist. Works in well-lighted rooms, which must be dust free and moisture proof. Must work in poorly lighted rooms when breakdowns occur in older buildings. May receive cuts and bruises or major burns. Acid fumes are hazardous to eyes when Parkerizing or bluing weapons. Many weapons contain highly compressed springs, which are hazardous to work with. Constant danger from picking up a weapon, which has not been unloaded. Mule working at a firing range or other outside sites is exposed to inclement weather. Danger of serious injury exists relative to test firing or unloading jammed weapons.
