This position is located within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS), at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FHCC), Environmental Management Service. This position functions as a Housekeeping Aid Leader.

Duties

"This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI." Duties include but are not limited to: Provides team leadership and guidance to WG-3566-02 Housekeeping Aids (Environmental Service Technicians) as assigned to the incumbent's area of responsibility in accomplishing sanitation duties in administrative, patient care and public areas. This includes sweeping, mopping, trash removal, dusting, polishing, cleaning of walls and windows, and other related functions. Relays the instructions received from Housekeeping Aid (HKA) Supervisors and gets work started. Works along with other HKAs and guides the pace, assigning team members to specific tasks to accomplish the objectives. Provides needed information for decisions from HKA Supervisors on problems that come up during the work. Maintains a current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers, on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (i.e.; technical orders). Ensures that work is fairly distributed, and all personnel are constantly productive. Checks work while in progress and when finished to ensure that supervisory instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines are met. Induces and directs other employees to follow instructions received from Supervisors and to meet deadlines. Reports to HKA Supervisors on status and progress of work, causes of work. delays and personnel problems and provides input for performance appraisals and ratings. Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Environmental Service Technician Leader--Critical Skills Incentive Authorized--/PD01502A Critical Skills Incentive: Authorized (20% of base salary) Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to climb ladders, walk constantly and sometimes perform light to moderate bending and stooping. During normal day to day operations, incumbent will be required to perform simple grasping, find hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height. Position routinely requires that individuals operate vehicles, powered equipment and push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts to and from loading docks to various locations within the Fredericksburg HCC. Working Conditions: Work is normally performed inside where there is ample light, heat and/or ventilation. Temperatures vary from hot in the summer to cold in the winter when traveling between buildings. Incumbent is intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals and solvents, fumes, dust and noise. May perform some duties of position on patient wards, within storage areas on facility grounds, or within sub-basement locations. Incumbent is exposed to possible contagions from the handling of patient personal clothing/effects and in performance of sanitation procedures. Is subject to cuts, scrapes, bumps, bruises, slips, falls and other injuries in the performance of required duties. Also exposed to disagreeable odors in the accomplishment of duties

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
