Duties
- Operate and maintain mechanical testing equipment.
- Effectively interact with customers who use NIST Charpy standard reference materials.
- Read, interpret, and apply standard test methods to evaluate the mechanical properties of materials.
- Coordinate work with other team members to provide reliable and timely flow of materials and measurements for Charpy standard reference materials.

Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 (ZT-II at NIST) level.Specialized experience is defined as:
Perform Technical literature searches, experience in conducting Charpy impact tests at room temperature and low temperature, Charpy sample preparation, data recording and record keeping, metallographic specimen preparation for EBSD (electron back-scattering diffraction), hardness testing, microhardness testing, experience with measurement of grain size, statistical data analysis, use of geometrical measurement devices and instruments, use of specimen cooling systems, knowledge of safe laboratory operations and experience with hazard assessments.
OR
Master's degree in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position.
OR
Two full years of graduate education (36 semester hours) in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position.
OR
An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education beyond the first 1 1/2 years (27 semester hours) of progressive graduate study. Graduate education must be in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
