You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the CNIC Installation, Safety and Occupational Health Office of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BLAZ.

Duties

You will serve as the Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH) safety advisor for the installation and supported tenants. You will be responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of programs, policies, regulations, and procedures, assuring compliance with applicable laws and agency rules and regulations. You will advise management and workers on safety requirements and potential accident causing situations and methods/techniques for preventing accidents. You will provide technical safety training to workplace supervisors and employees using a wide variety of materials, publications, exhibits and visual aids. You will prepare and revise local safety instructions and guides that are relevant to current or planned operations.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Analyzing data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices. Investigating mishaps, hazard reports, and unsafe or unhealthful working conditions to protect personnel and property. Advising personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes. Conducting safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
