Duties

You will be responsible for delegated area of projects meeting technical requirements, which include participating in technical reviews. You will serve as a textile subject matter expert and may serve on source selection boards, coordinate research and development, test evaluation efforts, and contribute to systems engineering plans. You will conduct research leading to the improvements in ballistic, flame resistant, and other fabrics of interest for military applications. You will support the development of products, specifications, and other technical documentation in support of textile technology programs. You will utilize textile processing expertise to identify, track, or mitigate technical risks for military clothing and body armor acquisition program. You will provide customer support and problem-solving expertise to textile and fabric users, manufacturers, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Supporting the development of product specifications AND other technical documentation in support of textile technology programs; OR conducting fabric AND textile component testing to support Research & Development OR current textile-based acquisition programs. Education

In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience:

Applicants must meet one of the education requirements listed below:
  1. Degree: textile technology.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in textile technology that included at least 20 semester hours in textile technology and closely related subjects, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
