This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a working Leader to employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.

Duties

Passes on instructions received from supervisor to workers. Establishes and maintains control over work operations and assures production output for safe, efficient, and economical accomplishment. Adjusts plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work, including providing technical instructions and guidance when problems arise. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Enforces safety regulations and provides information to supervisor regarding work performance of the assigned duties. Maintains a current knowledge of the Fort Greely electrical systems and answers questions of other workers concerning proper procedures, policies, written instructions and other directions to be used to complete an assigned task. Leads or personally carries out the more complex repair tasks and maintenance activities which require application of journeymen skills in a variety of trades and crafts. Install and repair special lighting and power systems. Tests equipment and diagnosis trouble, utilizes available circuit diagrams, or if not available, traces circuits, repairs or replaces defective components. Verify ground fault interrupters trip settings, torque all connections to specifications. Install, maintain and repair isolated electrical power systems. Maintains, repair and test grounding, static and interference grid systems. Assists in emergency repairs as needed. Test, repair and maintain essential emergency power switchgear. Test and monitors all transfer switches associated with emergency service for designated essential loads. Utilizes load banks as necessary to verify stable and reliable operation of emergency generators.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid AK drivers license.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items that weigh over 40 pounds.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I am able to preform a full range of electrical maintenance and repair work (i.e., installed, modified, repaired, maintained, troubleshot, tested, and loaded new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment). I have read and interpreted building plans, electrical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams and schematics. I have planned and laid out work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and completing repairs and installations. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is required in walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working off scaffolds, ladders and in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Physical effort is required in lifting, positioning, carrying, parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds and occasionally more than 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside. Subject to electrical shocks and burns, cuts and abrasions, abnormal heat and cold, fumes, burns, corrosive chemicals, dust, grease. May be required to work in both non-permit and permit required confined spaces and implement proper rescue and entry techniques.

Education
