This position is located at the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Indian Healthcare Center (ACLIHC), located in Acomita, NM. The position provides a full scope of family practice services for patients, working under the supervision of the Clinical Director. Will serve as the primary care physician for infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients who have both acute and chronic illnesses and conditions covering the entire spectrum of medicine.

Duties

Provides a wide range of medical services, advanced patient care and treatment to patients of all ages within acceptable medical standards in family medicine. Provides comprehensive health and medical care, treatment and preventive maintenance care to the community, and those eligible for services provided by IHS in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations. Examines patients, performs and interprets diagnostic tests and treatment procedures, prescribes and administers healthcare treatment for a range of acute and chronic illnesses. Manages a large group of inpatients and outpatients with a broad range of medical diagnoses, including treating medical emergencies and critically ill patients with life-threatening medical problems. Participates in community health education projects and assists assigned communities in planning community health service projects.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): DEGREE: You must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent degree from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: BOARD CERTIFICATION: You must be Board Certified in Family Practice and an active registrant of the Board in Family Practice. ACTIVE REGISTRATION: You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration to practice medicine as a Family Practice Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-14: In addition possession of the Basic Requirements and Selective Placement Factor, you must have 4 years of graduate training or experience in providing family practice services for patients of all ages. Such training or experience must be clearly identified by title and dates, and duties performed described in your resume to be creditable. This includes serving as primary care physician for infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with illnesses, diseases, injuries or other conditions. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
