Duties

Leads preparation and monitoring plans to assess, improve or expand natural resources. Participates in the preparation or review of land use plans and compliance documents. Leads or serves on an interdisciplinary team of BLM. Provides professional expertise related to natural resources in the management of BLM administered lands. Directs the collection, entering, updates, and maintenance of natural resources data according to prescribe BLM and program standards. Advises state or field leadership on natural resources concerns. Participates on leadership teams of local groups to promote and sustain cooperative natural resources conservation interest and volunteerism. Serve as initial or primary point of contact for individual and local/regional natural resources groups.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. A copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application. You must meet the BASIC Requirement and specialized experience in order to qualify for this position. BASIC Requirement for the 0401series: A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ADDITIONAL Requirement: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: GS-09: Specialized Experience: Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service performing duties such as: assisting other specialists in efforts to plan, carry out. and report on field inventories: documents, evaluates and reports changes in natural resource status: collecting, entering and maintaining natural resources monitoring data according to BLM and program standards. OR Have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university in a directly related field. Such education must demonstrate the knowledges, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education. GS-11: Specialized Experience: Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing duties such as: participating in the preparation and review of land use plans and environmental compliance documents; serves on an ID team and provides natural resources input to proposed plans or actions; directs or assists in the collection , entering and maintenance of natural resources monitoring data, ensures data quality and integrity by adherence to qualify control standards and procedures; independently conducts compliance inspections on multiple use actions, including monitoring construction activities. OR Have 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a directly related field. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work requires the incumbent to spend time performing both office and field work. The office work is primarily sedentary and may require walking, standing, and carrying light items, such as books, small instruments or samples, and other similar materials. While at the field office, the incumbent may occasionally lift materials such as fence posts, barbed wire, and seed bags, etc., requiring lifting of loads up to 50 pounds. Work Environment: The work environment varies from an office setting where the incumbent has regular contact with work associates, to a field setting where the incumbent is working alone for extended periods of time in remote situations. Field work will involve outdoor exposure, including some discomfort in extremes of temperature or inclement weather. The incumbent may be subjected to hostile wildlife and physical hazards.
