About the Position:
This position will serve as a Legal Assistant (OA) with the 434th Field Artillery Brigade, Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE) located at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The incumbent of this position will perform a variety of legal and administrative duties in support of the Administrative Division of the 434th Field Artillery Brigade.
Duties
Assists commanders and their personnel with all matters relating to the administration of military justice.
Prepares draft appointment orders detailing officers to conduct AR 15-6 investigations, administrative separation boards, and Article 32 hearings for review by the Chief, Military Justice.
Receives Commander's Report of Disciplinary or Administrative Action from the Provost Marshal or Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to ensure commanders promptly complete necessary action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Defense National Relocation Program will NOT be authorized
- Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are NOT authorized.
- The work may require 25% TDY travel with the Trial Counsel to interview out of state witnesses or to attend professional development training.
- The work of this position may require the employee to work irregular hours in support of trial times and witness availability, etc.
- Work may require working alternate or flexible work schedules in conjunction with courts-martial.
- Requires a qualified typist. (40 wpm)
- Some overtime work, night work, weekend work, and holiday work may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes the following: Perform a variety of legal and administrative duties to include filing reports, compiling case data, maintaining databases on various legal issues; Respond appropriately to inquiries both external and internal regarding legal issues; Research legal information to compare legal data; and Prepare documentation in support of a legal office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as law, paralegal studies.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
