This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville, WV.
In this position, you will conduct fundamental, applied, and developmental research on critical problems of temperate fruit production. Incumbent is responsible for developing and validating sustainable management strategies for persistent native and invasive pests of temperate fruit production.
Duties
Conduct fundamental, applied, and developmental research on critical arthropod pest problems of temperate fruit production.
Develop and validate sustainable management strategies for persistent native and invasive arthropod pests of temperate fruit production
Provides leadership in planning and implementing research programs and interpreting and reporting results from research dealing with the broad area of integrated pest management.
Serve as a collaborator and consultant to scientists and program officials within the agency, to other State and Federal agencies, University partners, private companies, and to scientific representatives of foreign countries on technical problems.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Basic Requirements for Entomology Series, 0414
Degree: entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Evaluation of Education: Applicants with major fields of study in biology, zoology, or invertebrate zoology may fully meet the basic educational requirements if their academic preparation included substantive instruction (including appropriate laboratory and field work) in basic general entomology, taxonomy, physiology, ecology, general and organic chemistry, general physics, and mathematics or statistics that provided some training in the analysis of variables.
Basic Requirements for Chemistry Series, 1320
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience: course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience, or additional education.
Basic Requirements for Biological Sciences Series 0401
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Additional Requirements
In addition to meeting the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet additional qualification requirements as stated below.
GS-12: Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or possess an equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience. Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-12 level of this position are: researching or studying basic biological, and ecological characteristics of temperate fruit arthropod pests; utilizing research analysis of chemical ecology of pests and their natural enemies by identifying behaviorally active compounds via GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC, GC-EAD and validating them in the field; publishing research results in peer reviewed journals related to chemistry, biology, entomology; and collaborating with stakeholders.
