This position is located in Grand Canyon National Park, in the Facility Management Division.

Duties

Major Duties: Repairing and maintaining existing paved and unpaved roadways and parking areas. All equipment kept up to speck with greasing, fueling and repairs. Removal of snow from roadways and parking areas, in front of dumpsters and removal of ice from roadways using a grader. Asphalt pavement repair and rehabilitation such as chip sealing, micro-sealing, and other asphalt related preservation/repair projects. Demolition of old structures/buildings; stock-piling materials, opening of new and old roadways, excavating pits and trenches, builds sites for housing and buildings, installation of snow poles, fencing, etc. Operation of a variety of heavy equipment and road work machinery such as bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, graders, cranes, high output rotary snow blowers, snowplows, tractor- trailer combinations, oil distributors, asphalt laydown machines, motorized aggregate spreaders, motorized brooms, compactors, and rollers. Leading a team that consists of two permanent full time WG-10s and up to four career seasonal WG-08 employees on a substantially full time and continued bases. Area Information: This position is stationed at Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim located in Northern Arizona. The South Rim is located approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 82 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 90 degrees in the summer to 0 degrees in the winter. Annual precipitation averages around 13 inches. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, churches, a recreation center with gym, a public library, a clinic with resident physicians, and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,500 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Flagstaff has a population of about 75,000 and has multiple K-12 public and private schools, Northern Arizona University, and diverse community, medical and other support services. Recreational opportunities include hiking, backpacking, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities. South Rim Housing: Permanent and Term employees with a Full Performance Level (FPL) of a GS-09 or WG-8 and above will be provided the option of accepting assigned housing, participating in the normal bid system, or accepting shared housing. Permanent and Term employees with an FPL of GS-08 or WG-7 and below may be provided the option of participating in the normal bid system or accepting shared housing. Any employee assigned to shared housing may continue to bid into non-shared housing.

Selective Factor - You must possess a valid commercial driver's license Class A with tanker endorsement, or you will not qualify for consideration. To be found minimally qualified, your resume must show the following: I am able to perform the full range of Engineering Equipment Operator Leader tasks, under close supervision, this includes informally leading or supervising employees performing skilled trade or labor and equipment operations. Informally leading in snow removal operations of roads using a dozer, loader mounted snow blowers, and snowplows. Instructing others in the safe operation of a variety of engineering equipment and motor vehicles. Communicating procedures, polices or written instructions to a crew. Provide mentoring and training to others. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
