Duties
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Natchez Trace Parkway is March through October, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.
This position is located at the Natchez Trace Parkway in Kosciusko, Mississippi. The primary function of Tractor Operators during the main season, from late spring to early fall, is to mow and maintain the roadsides along the Parkway and the access roads. During other times of the year, and as necessary during the main season, Tractor Operators perform general maintenance on the Parkway's infrastructure. This includes pavement maintenance such as crack sealing, patching holes, and pulling road shoulders as well as building maintenance including plumbing, painting, roofing, rough carpentry, and minor electrical work. Tractor Operators also remove hazardous trees and limbs and serve as the primary equipment operators. Tractor Operators often work independently or in small groups away from administrative areas and therefore possess all necessary authority and autonomy to carry out normal duty assignments.
