*** This is a part time position (10 hours per week) *** This position is located in the Finance Service at VA Erie Health Care System - Erie VA Medical Center in Erie, PA. The Teller is responsible for performing the full range of teller and cash control responsibilities simultaneously by applying methods, procedures, records, and forms that are used to ensure the propriety of cash items such as currency, checks, notes, money orders, coupons, and documents supporting cash transactions.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Receiving and verifying cash and check collections Ensuring that collection vouchers contain proper accounting classifications; proper signatures to verify collections; and cash, checks, or other documents submitted with collection vouchers are acceptable Examining and converting foreign currency or coupons Examining cash or checks for counterfeit suspicion, worn currency, or fraudulence Handling multiple types of vouchers in the receipt of funds Examining documents presented for disbursement of funds for completeness, presence of required supporting documentation, and validity of signatures Verifying entries to ensure that amounts due and amounts paid out are in agreement Making cash payments entering amounts and codes into computerized system Producing on demand checks for payees based on verification of supporting documents and obtaining signature of authorized agent Determining daily requirements for cash Controlling cash and prepares documents to reflect cash transactions between the teller and the Disbursing officer Controlling disposition of checks authorized and prepared for pick up by authorized agents Preparing the Cashier's Daily Activity Report Performing reconciliation, balancing, and auditing of receipts and disbursements in a large number of categories on a simultaneous basis Merging control records and balances amounts received from sources Researching, tracing, and correcting input, processing, or document errors Instructing customers on correct procedures, complicated regulations, questions concerning partial payments, and/or documentation/identification requirements Receiving uncollectible checks returned from the bank Preparing journal vouchers when processing uncollectible checks Receiving, screening, and disposing returned and undeliverable checks Tracing lost checks and advises on stop payment actions Determining checks to be canceled, verifying reasons and proper appropriation to be used Performing other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required

Minimum Requirement: The following are minimum requirements for appointment as a Teller in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met. Specialized Experience (GS-05): You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (i.e., GS-04). Qualifying examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: receiving and verifying cash and check collections and that all money collected balances; controlling cash and preparing documents to reflect cash transactions; and displaying courteous and respectful behavior to all customers. (CLEAR DETAILS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must show complete information for each job entry, such as beginning and ending dates of employment, duties performed, and/or total hours worked per week.) OR, Education (GS-05): Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. NOTE: One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. OR, Combination (GS-05): Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement for GS-05. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: CommunicationComputer SkillsControl of FundsCustomer Service IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary. Most tasks are performed while seated at a desk or table, although occasional walking and standing are required in visiting other offices, or in going to and from meetings and conferences.
