Duties
This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Major Duties:
Knowledge of basic or commonly used Hospital rules, procedures, or operations that typically require some previous training or experience.
Skill in writing and oral communication to write letters, memoranda, and reports and skill in oral communication to clearly explain procedures and regulations.
Ability to use basic office automation computer applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
Organization of office files and the purpose and content of documents in the files and for searching files to find relevant information, and logically organizing and reporting collected information.
Knowledge of the clerical steps in processing documents, filing and retrieving information, preparing reports, and maintaining suspense records.
Skill in communicating effectively.
Manages information security within areas of responsibility to assure that computer system security and confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained.
Monitors routine deadlines initiated by OIG and internal reviewing officials to ensure timely submission of responses and actions.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Part-Time Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/15/2024.
Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled.
You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below:
GS-04 General Experience: You must have 1 year or 52 weeks of generalized experience. OR
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
GS-05 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing data analyses of a variety of data, analyze the data after determining the data source, identify trends and provide recommendations, monitors routine deadlines initiated by OIG and internal reviewing officials to ensure timely submission of responses and actions, works with internal reviewing services regarding routine audits to understand their role concerning and internal/external reviews of a national concern, drafts correspondence requests, searches files and reference materials for information relating to the issue at hand. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 full academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Regular work is typically performed while sitting at a desk. No special physical demands are required.
Students meeting all the requirements specified in 5 CFR [362.204] may be converted to career conditional or career positions, as appropriate, at the employing medical facility. If there is no appropriate position available locally for a student who is considered a good candidate for conversion, the medical facility or the student may check lists of vacancies published by VA Central Office and contact other VA installations at which the student is interested in being employed.
