This position is located at Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument supports the South Idaho National Parks and the duty station of this position has the following options: Jerome, ID; Hagerman, ID or Arco, ID. This position will support the Resources Division.

Duties

This is a Career-Seasonal position. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately Mid-late January to beginning-mid December, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. This position guarantees a minimum of 20 pay periods in pay status and will not exceed 25 pay periods in pay status each year. Major Duties include but are not limited to: Conduct archeological field surveys including shovel tests, excavations, surface-level for archeological features and artifacts. Records data and prepares survey records. Conduct archeological monitoring in support of park projects. Survey and document previously known archeological sites for condition assessments. Evaluates, processes and prepares specimens for research, dating or other investigations. Identifies, labels, packages, and catalogs artifacts for curation. Works with park curator to perform cataloging and support curation duties. Enters archeological artifact and project data including artifact information, catalog records, field notes, site records, etc. into automated systems, appropriate forms, and archival records. Retrieves and compiles data a required for resource management reports, interpretive exhibits, etc. Assists in the development of a variety of documents (e.g. cultural resource management plans, preservation guides, etc) by gather data from files and reports, conducting research, and preparing draft documents. Support partner parks during archeological field season through travel and survey and monitoring work. Please visit find a park for additional park information.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/16/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Conducting work in support of historic preservation including archaeological inventory and monitoring, conducting literature searches in support of historic preservation, writing survey and excavation reports, laboratory analysis of archaeological materials, and using GPS and GIS to record archaeological sites and features; assisting in the preparation of documentation for purposes of compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act. You must include hours per week worked on your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of graduate-level education (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours or the number your school uses to represent one year of full time graduate academic study) that is directly related to the position being filled. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours or equivalent earned towards a graduate degree and divide by 18 semester hours or equivalent. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts and hours per week worked on your resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
