This is a term appointment for 1 year with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), Alaska Region (AR), Weather Service Office (WSO), with one vacancy in Saint Paul Island, AK.
Duties
As a Field Services Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
Provide general administrative support maintaining various forms and logs used for tracking observation program performance.
Provide general customer service and support to the public, stakeholders, and other organizations.
Provide facility support through routine inspections of buildings and housing units.
Receive, operate, and maintain atmospheric and climatologic data collection equipment including the Vaisala Autosonde, hydrogen generator, water distiller, and various precipitation measuring equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-07 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Collecting and updating atmospheric and climatologic data for the preparation of forms and actions;
Processing or maintaining records or documents for an office; and
Providing procurement or budget support.
