You will serve as a Research Physiologist in the Biomedical Research Department of NAVXDIVINGU.

Duties

You will be responsible for the creation and execution of complex laboratory and field research protocols related to the effects of environmental conditions, such as chronic/acute heat and cold stress, dehydration, energy deficits, etc. You will oversee Research, Development, Test and Evaluation programs to meet operational needs through the development of new scientific knowledge and technology, or through novel integration of existing knowledge and technologies. You will serve as principal investigator assigned to the Biomedical Research Department. You will provide direction and mentoring to junior scientists and engineers and pre/post-doctoral assistants in scientific design, data analyses, writing, investigative methods, and publication of results during their training programs. You will draft and route project documents through the Institutional Review Board, Scientific Review Committee, and Technical Review Committee. You will provide leadership in all aspects of laboratory and field research endeavors to include performing and overseeing the conduct of literature searches. You will collect, organize, input and analyze data gathered from research protocols. You will participate in and manage the preparation of reports, both oral and written, describing results of the developmental work for presentation at seminars and symposiums, publication in formal technical reports, and peer-reviewed journals. You will provide technically authoritative advice within assigned area to higher echelons, other Government agencies, and industrial concerns. You will coordinate with management and technical personnel providing specialized technical advice applicable to project development. You will provide technically authoritative expertise in the theory and applied human physiology associated with human performance related to the effects of environmental conditions in exercise and non-exercise scenarios.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band, NH-03 (GS-13 Equivalent), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional research physiologist conducting research studies or investigations on human musculoskeletal or cardiovascular performance to identify ways at preventing or minimizing the effects of environmental stresses on human performance in an undersea environment. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in one of the basic animal sciences or physiology; or a related discipline or field of science that included at least 24 semester hours in the basic animal sciences, of which 10 semester hours were in animal physiology. Note: Courses such as anatomy; cytology; invertebrate and vertebrate zoology; embryology; entomology; animal, dairy, and poultry husbandry; nutrition; genetics; and physiology may be used to meet the 24-semester-hour requirement in the basic animal sciences. Courses in physiology, animal or human physiology, cellular physiology, or courses that were well oriented toward animal or human physiology, e.g., some advanced courses in biochemistry, are qualifying as animal physiology courses. Courses in related fields such as cytology and microbiology (including microbial physiology) may also be qualifying, provided the course work dealt directly with the application of scientific principles underlying animal physiology, or with the methodology and techniques applied in animal physiology work.
