You will serve as a MACHINED PARTS INSPECTOR in the NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will perform visual and dimensional inspections on a wide variety of purchased and locally manufactured parts and assemblies.
You will review drawings, specifications, or contract requirements that may necessitate communication with the supplier or NAVSUP to answer supplier questions on deficiencies.
You will determine various work methods and set ups for use in inspection work as well as have a thorough knowledge of shop mathematics.
You will review and perform inspections of complex components, equipment, and machines parts for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Navy Supply system.
You will communicate with local shop supervisors, and technical codes to answer questions on identified deficiencies observed during physical inspection of component/commodity.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, gloves, coveralls (occasionally), glasses, goggles, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

*Reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, process instruction, receipt inspection procedures and bulletins, technical manuals, and engineering directives associated with machining, pipe fitting, welding, and testing.
*Using measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, calipers, comparators, Johnson gages, etc.
*Ability to use various marking methods, materials, and equipment to include electrochemical etching, dot-matrix, and vibro etching.
*Familiarity with metals such as cast iron, mild steel, alloy steel, aluminum, copper, other metals, alloys, or plastics.
*Demonstrating proficiency in tools used by mechanical and structural trades, such as machinist scales, straight edges, etc.
