The position is within the FAA, Aviation Safety (AVS), Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM), NAS Human Factors Safety Research Lab. This organization develops and manages medical programs in support of Aviation Safety.

Duties

Serves as a Psychology Technician in support of Human Factors research with special emphasis on measuring impacts of human factors on performance in aviation environments. Performs a combination of routine, multiple, and varying assignments under the general direction of a manager. Receives moderate supervision from the branch manager and moderate technical guidance from a Principal Investigator. Applies experience and detailed knowledge to plan and accomplish routine assignments. Assists in planning, preparing, and conducting research projects to quantify and assess human performance data in a variety of laboratory or field conditions or collected from existing data files. Contacts are primarily internal, but may also be external, depending on the project supported. Coordinates with other offices/agencies, when required, for purposes of gathering, scoring, analyzing, and reporting research data.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-F (FG/GS 7/8) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-E (FG/GS 5/6) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.Specialized experience includes experience conducting research studies related to general behavioral science, human factors psychology/engineering; Examining scientific literature to find articles related to the research study and summarizing them in a literature review; Planning research study protocol, preparing data collection, and executing protocol to collect research data; Assembling research data, collating data, and entering research data into digital files; Preparing reports and presentation materials documenting the research question and protocol, statistical analyses, results, and recommendations concerning findingsOREducation: One full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position.ANDQuality Ranking Factor (QRF): A well-qualified candidate will have experience in conducting research studies related to aviation, flight deck, or air traffic human factors within their resume.Applicants should provide examples of Specialized Experience in their Work History.
