Duties

Serve as coordinator and technical advisor for the Central Yukon Field Office outdoor recreation programs, and provide recommendations to managers on recreation program needs, priorities, and strategic goals. Oversee recreation management, permitting, and planning at the field office. Permit activities include guided hunting, transporting, film and photography, and tour operations. Collaborate with others to develop new signage, brochures, displays and public information materials or develop plans for new recreation facilities and conduct outreach to promote recreational opportunities on public land. Research and identify opportunities for grants, financial assistance programs and other funding requests to ensure adequate funding and support. Conduct monitoring, inventory studies and surveys, to identify trends in the development and management of recreation resources. Enter, manipulate, update, and maintain data in an automated system.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. For GS-9: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is further defined as: Analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interests, habits, and needs of diversified groups, and the means for meeting those needs; evaluation of land or water areas for their recreation and related potential use; park guide or tour leader; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or natural resource research work. -OR- Education: Possess a Master's or equivalent degree or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree in a field related to the position being filled, or LL.B or J.D., if related. The degree should have a major study in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation that included one or more courses in outdoor recreation. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. For GS-11: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level. Specialized experience is further defined as: Analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interests, habits, and needs of diversified groups, and the means for meeting those needs; evaluation of land or water areas for their recreation and related potential use, such as wildlife reserve; preparation or review of plans and programs for natural resource utilization and recreation area development; solution of administrative, intergovernmental, socioeconomic, and other problems involved in providing adequate recreation opportunities while preserving, restoring, and enhancing the quality of the outdoor environment. -OR- Education: Possess a PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M in an accredited college or university that is related to the position. The degree should have a major study in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation that included one or more courses in outdoor recreation. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: This position requires walking, hiking, bending, and carrying a backpack over rough terrain or driving an automobile or off-highway vehicle or small boat. Work Environment: Field work will require camping and/or living in remote and primitive conditions to include sleeping in a tent which may include exposure to inclement weather.
