This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for for Certain DoD Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Conducts surveys of work sites, housing, shops, and other buildings to identify and evaluate the potential toxicity of materials used or found.
Determines the types of agents and controls involved, the nature of the problem, and the number and type of environmental samples/measurements to be collected, or instrumental measurements to be made.
Conducts safety inspections of various areas within the guidelines and regulations of Army, OSHA, and local standards.
Coordinates the laboratory analysis of samples and reports results to superiors through reports, which include findings and recommendations
for control of hazards.
Evaluates the adequacy of controls for health hazards in initial and final plans and specifications for facility construction, alteration, and repair
work.
Participates in educational programs designed to inform employees, managers, and building occupants of occupational health regulations, latest techniques, and general occupational health matters of concern.
Conducts training and develops training plans in areas associated with industrial hygiene and safety.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting a wide of industrial hygiene surveys of chemical and physical hazards; preparing comprehensive industrial hygiene reports of survey findings with recommendations for eliminating/mitigating hazards; and implementing programs related to industrial hygiene. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
