THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1211000 and is part of the TN ARMY, National Guard.
This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter).
Duties
As an OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER, WG-3306-10, you will repair, modify, overhaul, inspect, troubleshoot, test, adjust and clean the optics and supporting mechanical and electrical elements of complex panoramic telescopes. Visually inspect optical instrument equipment and operate mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions. Perform other duties as assigned. Abide by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Serve as a commodity inspector during technical inspections, Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET) or Maintenance Assistance and (MAIT) Instruction Team. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
- Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
Qualifications
Military Grades: E-3 through E-9 or WO1 through CW3
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training with the ability to apply knowledge of optical theory and construction principles to test, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment. Experience which demonstrates the ability to understand and apply instructions, and specifications; and interpret blueprints and diagrams of optical paths and mechanical linkages. Experience using hand and power tools common to an optical shop.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months experience or training repairing, rebuilding, overhauling systems, and components of optical instrument equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunction in determining remedy where complex relationships exist among optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems. Experience in the use of a variety of measuring and testing equipment. Experience interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
