Duties
Responsible for the oversight of a team of professionals, such as fish biologists, hydrologists, wildlife biologists, and natural resources specialists including setting goals, establishing priorities, and monitoring the progress of projects.
Serve as a supervisor, coach, and supporter for employees while solving problems and carryout out the organization’s goals.
Leads an interdisciplinary team in developing long-term objectives, formulating alternative management strategies, evaluating impacts, and recommending actions to further the long-term productivity of natural resources.
Develops, implements, coordinates, and assess the effectiveness of the Field Office’s natural resources programs.
Plans and implements Field Office budget to accomplish program objectives.

This position has a Basic Education Requirement: Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For GS-12: Meet the basic education requirement AND have year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes experience in the development and implementation of a natural resource program and procedural guidance consistent with laws and regulations such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA); experience working in a Natural Resource environment assisting in the preparation of land use plans, interdisciplinary activity plans and/or ecosystem plans; developing long-term workforce and strategic plans; providing leadership, guidance and oversight to subordinates and office staff to ensure mission accomplishment and compliance with directives, regulations and policies in a variety of different program areas such as resource management, budget, or human resource functions; communicate effectively orally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The incumbent's work primarily takes place in an office setting with some time spent in the field as needed. Office work has no special physical requirements but is mentally demanding. Field work may involve arduous walking and climbing in a variety of terrain, from flat to steep, rocky, and mountainous. Field work may require operation of 4X4 vehicles (UTV's) to reach work sites.
Work Environment: Office work takes place in an adequately lighted and heated indoor environment that requires no special safety precautions. Field work can involve driving long distances on unpaved roads and is carried out under all kinds of weather conditions, including temperatures that may range from 10° to 105°F. The incumbent may encounter poisonous insects, plants, or snakes while in the field. The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated safety officer.
Education
This position falls under the General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401 Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).
This position has a positive education requirement (see qualification section for education requirements). You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level. (GS-12 and above)
