About the Position: This position is Term Not-To-Exceed 2 Years and is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights. This Term Not-To-Exceed 2 years position may be extended up to 8 years maximum. This position may be converted to career-conditional or career after 2 years in the competitive service.
Duties
Assist with assessing, tailoring and prioritizing Army Community Service (ACS) delivery in support of local military and Family needs.
Provide comprehensive and responsive ACS services to the population to include client intake, information, referral, crisis intervention, life skills, and transition services.
Provide individual and Family consultation services, education, referrals, and follow-up.
Develop, implement, and manage installation ACS services, establishing goals, objectives, and procedures IAW applicable State, DoD, DA and other federal guidance, regulations, and laws.
Consult with on- and off-site community leadership officials on Soldier and Family Readiness services and related issues.
Design and establish marketing and public relations strategies to ensure target populations are informed of services and activities.
Research and write articles; Research, organize, design, procure and disseminate community resource information.
Prepare and deliver presentations on services and activities.
Serve as unit service coordinator, providing services to a designated military unit.
Gather data, compile statistics and report information to the ACS Director for use at installation, IMCOM Directorates (ID), Headquarters staff and/or DoD levels.

Basic Requirement for Army Community Service Specialist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Psychology, Counseling, or Sociology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Providing community services to a targeted population in the area of family readiness, crisis intervention, life skills, and transition; 2) Drafting and preparing educational materials to inform individuals of available resources; 3) Communicating with internal and/or external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of family related services and support such as: family readiness and/or quality of life; and 4) Presenting briefings and training to customers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
