About the Position: Lake Sidney Lanier is a large multi-use lake located in the foothills of the Southern Appalachians Mountains and only one hour north of Atlanta, GA. The lake is surrounded by numerous towns and offers a variety of living conditions from urban to rural. North Georgia offers an abundance of opportunities for recreation, sports, universities, shopping, hospitals and theater. The climate in NE Georgia allow for year round outdoor opportunities.
Duties
Responsible for natural resource management for the resource area.
Develop and implement plans for variety of complex natural resource management and protection programs.
Coordinate plans and activities for the management and operation and maintenance of the natural resources, parks, recreation sites, facilities, and undeveloped areas.
Review requests for leases, licenses, special use permits, and shoreline use permits. Recommend appropriate courses of action to Real Estate Division.
Provide advice and technical guidance to the project office, including formulation and execution of budgets.
Assure reasonable equity of individual employee performance objectives, standards and ratings among subordinate organizations.
Provide safety briefs and explain regulations to employees and volunteers.
Foster cooperation and coordination of joint activities with local, state, and federal agency representatives.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- State issued Driver License is required.
- Incumbent may operate a Class 1 motorboat therefore, Motor Vessel License is required.
- One year supervisory probation period required.

Basic Requirement for Natural Resource Manager:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Providing management, oversight, direction, technical assistance, and/or leadership for Recreation, Natural Resources, and/or Shoreline Management programs, (2) Participating in budget development, short term planning, and long term planning for assigned program (s), and 3) Providing leadership and supervisory functions, such as employee development, mentoring, coaching, onboarding, performance plans and appraisals, interview candidates, plan/assign/schedule work, disciplinary actions, etc.,. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
