This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 6), Salisbury VA Medical Center, Resource Management (Fiscal), Salisbury, NC. The Teller position involves the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, and other clerical processing of cash items such as direct handling of the cash items and use of cash accountability control methods.

Duties

Responsible for maintaining the cash flow so that adequate cash is on hand at all times to operate the daily cashier functions. Responsible for the preparation and deposit of various types of collections received including pharmacy co-payments, cash, money orders, or credit card payments. Performs clerical work in support of an agency cash processing function involving the receipt, examination, deposit, custody, or other processing of cash items. Maintains and is responsible for the supply of official accountable receipts and accountable forms used to acknowledge collections and control and requisition them. Employee is required to balance accounts daily to assure that the disbursing fund and collections are properly accounted for. Responsible for the CBOCs checkbook and writing checks for the amount needed to replenish. Determines the need and time for replenishment of funds based upon amounts disbursed during previous periods and known future needs or pre­ established schedules. Determines the acceptability of a wide variety of items and documents, the adequacy of identification material, and the authenticity of signatures. Responsible for the funds advanced by the Treasury Disbursing Office to cover payment of vouchers and must either return the funds in full or submit documentary evidence that they were disbursed or otherwise disposed of in accordance with applicable law and instructions of the Government Accounting Office (GAO), Makes cash payments to patients, employees, and cash replenishments to alternate cashiers. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/05/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Teller and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: cash, check, money order and credit card processing; posting of funds; cash disbursements; reconciliation, balancing and auditing for disbursements and receipts; and/or profiles of third party check payments for proper distribution, etc. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal Service. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Arithmetic/Mathematical ReasoningComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Financial Management Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. There are no special physical demands.
