About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Public Works, Master Planning Division, Geographic Information System Branch.

Duties

Maintains an expertise in cartographic techniques and knowledge of the installation's geographic information system and computer-aided design and drafting concepts, terminology, and drafting capabilities. Responsible for depicting in pictorial or image form, data or objects described orally or presented in terms of ideas or suggestions to fulfill the objectives of technical specialists or management personnel. Participates in on-site field data acquisition and data verification and is then responsible for linking graphics and textual data. Prepares custom report formats and does computer searches for specific database items, as required. Compiles and develops new GIS files according to the required job and updates existing files, as needed. Works with Public Works and other installation customers in developing printed material, exhibits and presentations which require specific visual materials to communicate information. Prepares drawings, maps, charts, exhibits and displays from sketches, preliminary layouts, and landscape plans through scale measurements, aerial photographs, projected cartographic enlargements and other standard techniques.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using geographic information systems (GIS) software to manipulate geospatial data and create complex map products from it; and experience managing tabular data files and linking them to geospatial datasets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: cartography, geographic information systems (GIS), geography or other directly related science and mathematics fields of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 1 year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
