Duties
In this Storage Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals who are responsible for the acceptance, documentation, storage, preservation and disposition of samples related to the analysis of trade samples, controlled substances, controlled substances reference materials and training aids, digital forensics and latent print evidence.
This position starts at a salary of $59,966.00 (GS-9, Step 1) to $94,317.00 (GS-11, Step 10) with promotion potential to $94,317.00 (GS-11 Step 10). Salary: Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection.

While serving as a Storage Specialist, your duties will include:
Receiving, verifying, documents and prepares for acceptance all samples submitted for analysis.
Reviewing all sample documentation for accuracy and completeness and as necessary, requests additional information from the appropriate submitting officer.
Utilizing CBP system to logging, track and monitor sample locations and status from receipt to disposition, ensuring timely and accurate updates to these systems.
Ensuring all samples comply with packaging, labeling, tracking, inventory, and storage requirements.
Conducting disposition and returning of samples and evidence according to CBP policies.
Conducting and reporting annual inventory of physical evidence.
Qualifications
Experience:
GS-9 Experience: You qualify for the GS-9 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Drafting, receiving, and reviewing all required documents for the transfer or final disposal of evidence.
Providing guidance to laboratory staff concerning sample receiving, storage, return and/or disposition.
Tracking and monitoring the location and status of samples from receipt to final disposition.
GS-11 Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Assessing situations that are complicated by conflicting and/or incomplete data and problem solving to isolate issues.
Defining issues or problems in terms that are compatible with appropriate laws, policies, or regulations.
Maintaining, managing, and monitoring the operation of the permanent seized property vault(s), to include compliance with all physical security standards and the inventory of physical evidence as it relates to the permanent seized property vault(s).
Education Substitution GS-9: You may substitute a Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education or a J.D or L.L.B. degree for specialized experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours.
Education Substitution GS-11: You may substitute a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or L.L.M for the specialized experience required at the GS-11 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study. If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours. You are required to submit proof of your claim.
Combining Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.). You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and

Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
